OCAD Students Express 'Cultural Optimism' in Toronto

    Torontonians to vote for their favourite

    TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - Lawn signs may be popular among politicians,
but students at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) are using transit
shelter ads to campaign for votes to win the fourth annual Astral Media
Outdoor Student Design Competition. Beginning today, the 'final four' student
ads - selected by an expert panel of judges - will be displayed on more than
200 transit shelters in the City encouraging the public to vote for their
    Third year advertising students were challenged to create original
outdoor artwork that responds to the statement "My Toronto is" with a creative
expression of cultural optimism. The four finalists were selected by a jury
comprised of representatives from Astral Media Outdoor, OCAD, Kramer Design &
Associates, Zenith Optimedia, ACLK, Marc Canada and Optimum Public Relations.
    "The contest provides students with the opportunity to build their
portfolios, receive constructive feedback from key industry players and have
their work displayed on a grand scale," said Val Meyer, Vice President Sales,
Astral Media Outdoor. "The theme of cultural optimism has resulted in a number
of exceptional ads that show innovation, and bring life and light to the City.

    No voter card necessary

    From April 29th through to May 24th Torontonians are encouraged to vote
online at www.mytorontois.com for the design that best represents their idea
of Toronto. The winning design will be unveiled in late-May and the successful
student(s) will receive $3,000 in prize money and a $2,000 donation to a
charity of their choice. They also win the honour of having their ads
displayed throughout the City during the month of June.

    The final four student designs are:
    1.  'Colour and Light' - Captures the energy, life and happiness in a
        City where people are free to show their true colours and proudly
        create a cultural mosaic.

    2.  'Happy to Be Here' - Expresses the positive energy and attitudes of
        Torontonians, with a goal to evoke happiness and inspire optimism.

    3.  'It's Easy to Love a City that Loves You Back' - A portrait of the
        city demonstrating the feeling people get when they are here.

    4.  'Keep on Shining Toronto' - Creates a warm glowing smile to reflect
        the positive energy that stems from the people who live in Toronto.
