Nunavik Adventure Challenge

INUKJUAK, QC, Sept. 19, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - From September 12th to 19th in Inukjuak was the 9th edition of the Nunavik Adventure Challenge. This was the first time it was held in the beautiful village of Inukjuak located on the Hudson Coast.

During all the week, an average of 100 participants per day trained in Mountain Biking, Rock climbing, Sea Kayaking, Skateboarding and Trekking for 7 days in a row! The youths of Inukjuak proved they are really talented in many sports and have a lot of endurance and stamina.

The week culminated Saturday with the 9th Nunavik Adventure Challenge Race where a record participation of 56 racers took part in the event! There was also a record participation of women with half of the racers.

For the first race held in Inukjuak, the overall winning team of Nunavik Adventure Challenge Inukjuak was the team Lookouts (Jaani Kasudluak, Lucasi Kasudluak) with a time of 49:00. The team Butterflies (Olive Kasudluak, Emallak Oweetalutuk) won the women category with a time of 56:19. The mixed category was won by team Jack (Yakusi Iqaluk, Lynda Imallak) with a time of 1:13:50.

This N.A.C. in Inukjuak was a great opportunity for ten Nunavimmiuts to work on the event as instructors and technical staff. They were able to use the skills they learned in the different N.A.C. clinics specifically organised troughout the year where they obtained different certifications.

The N.A.C. started two years ago with a pilot event in Kangiqsualujjuaq in partnership with KRG, Makivik, and Endurance Aventure. Since then, 15 N.A.C. Events and Clinics happened in Salluit, Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kangiqsujjuaq, Ivujivik, Umiujaq and Inukjuak.

Over 800 community members have participated in the events trainings for a total of 2200 participations for the 2010-2011 N.A.C.

More than 400 people participated in the 9 N.A.C. races.

In the last two years the Nunavik Adventure Challenges has been receiving positive media attention and were broadcast in Europe on Sky TV, Montagne TV and TV8 Mont Blanc.

In the written medias, we can mention ESPN, and the Globe and Mail.
