Notice to public: Settlement hearing in the matter of Hal Julian Biren

    TORONTO, Nov. 1 /CNW/ - The Investment Dealers Association of Canada
(IDA) announced today that a hearing will be held before a Hearing Panel
appointed pursuant to By-law 20 for the presentation, review and consideration
of a Settlement Agreement.
    The Settlement Agreement is between IDA staff and Mr. Biren, who was at
all material times a Registered Representative with the North York, Ontario
branch of TD Waterhouse, a Member of the IDA, and relates to matters for which
he may be disciplined. The conduct that is the subject of the hearing occurred
during the period from February 2001 to March 2004. The charges against Mr.
Biren include failing to use due diligence to learn and remain informed of the
essential facts of a customer as well as accepting instructions on an account
from a third party without the knowledge of the client and without having on
file a written trading authorization, contrary to IDA Regulations 1300.1,
200.1 and By-law 29.1. Mr. Biren is currently registered with the Markham,
Ontario branch of HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc.
    The hearing is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November
15, 2007, at Legal Transcript Services, 111 Richmond Street West, Suite 1500,
Toronto, Ontario. The hearing is not open to the public unless and until the
Settlement Agreement has been accepted by the Hearing Panel. Copies of the
decision of the Hearing Panel and the settlement agreement will be made
available if and when the Settlement Agreement is accepted by the Hearing
