MONTREAL, Sept. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Michel Kelly-Gagnon, President of the
Conseil du patronat du Québec (CPQ) is pleased to announce the nomination of
Norma Kozhaya as Research Director and Chief Economist for Quebec's main
employers' federation. Ms. Kozhaya obtained a PhD in economics from the
Université de Montréal and until recently, was an economist with the Montreal
Economic Institute (MEI) and a lecturer for the economics department at the
Université de Montréal.
At the MEI Ms. Kozhaya published numerous studies on corporate and
personal taxation, labour regulations, public finances, social policies,
health care reform and post-secondary education funding. She also co-authored
the 2005 and 2006 editions of the Report Card on Quebec's Secondary Schools,
published in L'Actualité magazine. Ms. Kozhaya, who appears regularly in the
media, has written more than 50 opinion letters over the years for various
newspapers and magazines from Quebec and across Canada.
"Hiring such an accomplished economist as Ms. Kozhaya demonstrates the
CPQ's desire to support its government relations and public interventions with
substantial research. Ms. Kozhaya's arrival will increase the CPQ's capacity
to convince the various governments of the need to take into account the
concerns raised by Quebec's entrepreneurs and business leaders," said Mr.
Ms. Kozhaya will be supported by a number of outside collaborators and by
economic analyst, Youri Chassin who has been working at CPQ since April. Mr.
Chassin obtained his master's degree in economics from the Université de
Montréal. After acting as vice-president of university affairs for the Quebec
Federation of University Students (1999-2000) he was a board member for the
Conseil permanent de la jeunesse (2001-2004) and he campaigned to pay off
