- Nissan Canada Inc. makes donation to local food bank for those less
fortunate this holiday season -
TORONTO, Dec. 20 /CNW/ - The best way to enjoy the holiday season is to
spread some cheer to others and this week that is exactly what Nissan
employees have done with a donation of over $6,000 to the Daily Bread Food
Bank in Toronto.
"The Daily Bread Food Bank is an important resource to many families in
the Toronto area," said Wendy Durward, Director, Marketing Communications for
Nissan Canada Inc. "Nissan employees are proud of the communities in which we
work and live and we wanted to show our support to our neighbours in need
during the holiday season."
Each month 75,000 people in the GTA are fed by the Daily Bread Food Bank
through a network of 160 member agencies and over 190 food relief programs.
Thirty-four per cent of those who use the services provided by the Daily Bread
Food Bank are children and 51% of food bank clients report having a disability
or serious illness.
"Without the assistance of generous donations such as the one by Nissan
employees, there is no way the Daily Bread Food Bank would be able to support
the demand, especially around the holidays," said Gail Nyberg, Executive
Director for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
Nissan is proud to provide support in Canadian communities. In 1993 the
Nissan Canada Foundation was incorporated as an independent philanthropic
organization. In partnership with Nissan dealers, the foundation provides
roughly 50 new vehicles each year to Meals on Wheels organizations across
