DENVER, June 4 /CNW/ -- Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) today
announced the appointment of Alan R. Blank as Senior Vice President, Legal and
External Affairs, effective June 23, 2008.
Mr. Blank joins Newmont from Stoel Rives LLP in Portland, Oregon where he
served as a partner in the firm for the last 20 years. Mr. Blank's 27-year
legal career includes experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions and
other commercial transactions for clients in the mining, steel and utilities
businesses, financial services industries, private equity funds and

Mr. Blank's appointment follows the announcement in April that Britt
Banks, Executive Vice President, Legal and External Affairs, will depart
Newmont after fifteen years of service. As previously announced, Mr. Banks
will remain available to Newmont as a consultant to assist in the seamless
transition of responsibilities to Mr. Blank.
Upon Mr. Banks's departure, Blake Rhodes will become the Company's
General Counsel, with responsibility for Newmont's global legal function. Mr.
Rhodes will report to Mr. Blank.
