Newly Ratified Collective Agreements Cover 2,800 Public Elementary Occasional Teachers

    TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - Public elementary occasional teachers, members
of the Halton, Simcoe, Greater Essex, Renfrew, and Lakehead Occasional Teacher
Locals of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), voted
overwhelmingly yesterday evening to approve new local collective agreements.
    "These are all important settlements for occasional teachers, their
students, and their respective communities. Every ratification is an
endorsement of our campaign to improve working conditions for occasional
teachers," said ETFO President David Clegg.
    The Halton Local represents 1,100 occasional teachers, the Simcoe Local
represents 900 occasional teachers, the Greater Essex Local represents 380
occasional teachers, the Renfrew Local represents 220 occasional teachers, and
the Lakehead Local represents 200 occasional teachers.

    The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
