New Poll/New Methodology - EKOS introduces Canada to methodology that has led the field in U.S. primaries

OTTAWA, Sept. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - EKOS Research Associates is pleased to
announce a new poll, conducted with a methodology called IVR that has proven
its success in the U.S. primaries.
Conducted last week, the EKOS IVR poll finds the Conservatives (38%)
already showing a decisive lead over the second place Liberals (26%). The NDP
is in third with 15% of the vote nationally, followed by the Green Party (11%)
and the BQ (10%). These results are very similar to results from other
published polls conducted over a similar timeframe, including our own
PROBIT(C) poll issued yesterday, which employed a blend of telephone and
internet interviews. Full details of these polls are available now at
The significance of the IVR poll is not that it shows startlingly new
results. In fact it doesn't. The significance is that this new approach works
as well or better than traditional phone polling and the newer internet
panels, in which EKOS continues to be a leader in terms of its scrupulous
methodology and accurate results.
IVR, which stands for Interactive Voice Recognition, allows respondents
to enter their preferences by punching the keypad on their phone, rather than
telling them to an operator. While each method has its pluses and minuses, one
key advantage of the IVR approach is to ensure systematically consistent
interview delivery and to eliminate inter-interviewer variances. In the
American primaries, where pollsters have had their accuracy tested scores of
times this year, the two companies employing IVR have been rated first and
eighth among more than forty companies by the leading website monitoring
polling in the U.S.
In this election, EKOS will use several methodologies to triangulate what
is happening among the electorate. We will use our hybrid internet and phone
panel, PROBIT(C), for in-depth coverage of the issues and personalities in the
campaign. At the same time, we will be employing IVR for quick soundings of
voter sentiment in cities and regions of particular interest. Stay tuned to we've got a lot more coming in this election.
