New Judge Appointed To The Ontario Court Of Justice

    TORONTO, Feb. 20 /CNW/ -


    The province has appointed a new judge to the Ontario Court of Justice,
effective March 4, 2009.

    Justice John Stanley Skowronski was called to the Bar in 1986. Since
then, he has specialized in criminal law. As an Assistant Crown Attorney in
London since 1992, he prosecuted cases in the Ontario Court of Justice, the
Superior Court of Justice and was supervisor of the bail program for two
years. He has also served as a resource person for the N'Amerind Native
Alternative Measures program. He has been a panellist for continuing legal
education seminars on topics such as arson, and third party records and Crown
    As an active member of the community, he has been involved in fundraising
for the Salvation Army and, for the last 14 years, has contributed to the
fundraising efforts of the Royal Canadian Legion through participation in some
of their most successful fundraising events. Chief Justice Annemarie E.
Bonkalo has assigned Justice Skowronski to preside in London.


    "The appointment of Justice Skowronski will increase access to justice
and help our justice system work more effectively and efficiently," said
Attorney General Chris Bentley. "I am confident that Justice Skowronski's
broad range of legal experience will enable him to make significant
contributions to the Ontario Court of Justice."
