New Canadian award program launches during the fourth annual National Biotechnology Week

    BIOTECanada partners with Schering-Plough Canada to recognize health

    OTTAWA, Sept. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - BIOTECanada and Schering-Plough Canada in
collaboration with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) are
pleased to announce the creation of the CIHR BIOTECanada Schering-Plough
Canada Fellowship to support important research in the development of health
    "Researchers today are working to develop the next generation of
therapies. It's important that we as an industry support early-stage research
that can meet the healthcare needs of growing global populations," said

opportunity for Canadian researchers."
    The winner will be the highest ranked postdoctoral (post-PhD) fellowship
candidate in Canada in the fields of immunology, infectious and inflammatory
diseases, cardiovascular conditions, allergies and respiratory problems as
determined by the peer-review process used for CIHR Fellowship Awards. The
prize is worth $20,000 over two years and may be awarded in addition to the
CIHR Fellowship Award.

on this initiative. This new national fellowship program will provide
prestigious recognition and support to some of the very brightest young
scientists in these important areas of research, and it enhances CIHR's

    The fellowship recipient will be announced at the CIHR Canadian Health
Research Awards ceremony taking place Tuesday, November, 20 at the National
