MONTREAL, Aug. 27 /CNW/ - One of the youngest competitors took home one
the biggest trophies as New Brunswick's Chad Trites won the Men's Singles
title at the 2007 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships on Saturday, August 25.
Trites, age 20, defeated BC's Hiren Bhartu 21-20 in the final game of the
round robin in order to advance to the gold medal game, where he again
defeated Bhartu. The victory gave New Brunswick their first ever gold medal at
the Canadian Lawn Bowling National Championships.
The Championships were held last week at three lawn bowling clubs in
Montreal - Westmount, St. Lambert and Verdun, with championship day taking
place at the Westmount Lawn Bowling Club. Strong provincial showings included
Saskatchewan, picking up a gold medal in Men's Pairs, a silver in Women's
Fours and a bronze in Women's Pairs, and Ontario's 'A' team, which had a
silver medal in Men's Fours and Pairs and Women's Singles and a bronze medal
in Men's Singles.
Over 150 of Canada's top lawn bowlers attended the championships, having
earned the right to represent their province by winning their provincial
playdowns. The annual event will be held in Nova Scotia in 2008.
