New AT&T USBConnect 881 Delivers Enhanced Performance and Automatic AT&T Software Installation

    New LaptopConnect USB Device Takes Advantage of AT&T HSPA Network

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, and VANCOUVER, Nov. 14 /CNW/ - AT&T Inc. (NYSE:  T) and
Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:  SWIR - TSX:SW) today announced the availability of the
AT&T USBConnect 881, a new, easy-to-use wireless USB data device that is the
first to have AT&T Communication Manager software pre-loaded. The AT&T
USBConnect 881 automatically installs AT&T Communication Manager when first
used with Microsoft Windows Vista, XP and 2000 notebooks(1). This eliminates
the need for an installation CD to provide a plug-and-play experience for most
    The AT&T USBConnect 881 enables laptop owners to quickly and easily send
and receive e-mail and access the Internet on AT&T's 3G High Speed Packet
Access (HSPA) BroadbandConnect wireless network. This network has upload
speeds between 500 Kbps and 800 Kbps and enhanced download speeds ranging
between 600 Kbps and 1,400 Kbps. The faster download speeds provide an optimal
wireless Internet-browsing experience, and the faster upload speeds will
enhance users' ability to send large files, such as e-mail with attachments,
photos or business documents.
    AT&T is the first U.S. carrier to deploy enhanced upload speeds through
High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) in its HSPA network. HSPA is the
latest generation of mobile broadband technology based upon the global
standard for wireless - GSM.

it is an ideal choice for international travelers. In addition, the USBConnect
881 works seamlessly across HSPA and EDGE/GPRS networks and provides customers
with the ideal mix of coverage and performance whether they are traveling
across town, the U.S. or the world. AT&T's nationwide(2) EDGE network is the
largest national high speed wireless data network in the U.S.

    AT&T offers a variety of DataConnect rate plans, including an unlimited
data plan for $59.99 a month for customers, with a two-year contract. AT&T's
DataConnect North American plan of 100MB for $109.99 a month provides for
usage in select Canada and Mexico roam zones, as well as unlimited domestic
use. The DataConnect Global plan of 100MB for $139.99 a month covers
additional data usage in select roam zones in more than two dozen countries,
including many European countries, India, China, South Korea and Japan.

    AT&T HSUPA Deployment

    The deployment of HSUPA will complete the transition of the AT&T
3G network to HSPA standards. HSDPA technology is deployed today across the
company's 3G footprint, which includes more than 220 U.S. major metropolitan
areas. HSUPA will be added throughout the network in the remainder of 2007 and
early 2008, and new AT&T 3G deployments moving forward will include both HSPA
    HSUPA technology initially provides enhanced upload speeds for laptop
users. AT&T launched its first HSUPA device, the AirCard 881, in October.
Additional LaptopConnect cards and other HSUPA-compatible devices are expected
to be certified by AT&T later this year and in 2008.
    The HSPA network enhancements demonstrate AT&T's continuing commitment to
deploying a network that delivers the industry's best wireless experience.
Over the past three years, the company has invested more than $18 billion to
build the scope and capability of its wireless network while focusing on the
service criteria that matter the most to customers - widespread voice and data
coverage, high speed data connectivity, service flexibility and service
reliability and quality.
    The AT&T USBConnect 881 will be available for purchase across AT&T sales
channels starting Nov. 14. The USBConnect 881 will be available for
$49.99 with a new two-year DataConnect contract of $59.99 a month or higher.
