Negative test results give green light to sales of Riopelle de L'Isle, Tomme de Grosse-Ile and Mi-Carême cheeses

    ISLE-AUX-GRUES, QC, Sept. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Christian Vinet, General
Manager of Fromagerie de L'Isle-aux-Grues, announces that three of its cheese
products - Riopelle de L'Isle, Tomme de Grosse-Ile and Mi-Carême - are now
back on sale after being voluntarily suspended last Thursday. Tests conducted
by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Quebec Ministry of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) and the Laboratoires d'Analyse S.M.
all yielded negative results.
On August 28, 2008, Fromagerie L'Isle-aux-grues asked its distributors to
suspend temporarily the sale of the Riopelle de L'Isle, Tomme de Grosse-Ile
and Mi-Carême cheeses until all tests were completed and results were known.
"We were pretty confident but wanted to be sure. Today, we are very pleased to
obtain full confirmation that our products delivered to stores and our
production plant are in no way responsible for the contamination of a small
quantity of the Riopelle de L'Isle and Tomme de Grosse Ile cheeses sold at two
regional outlets and recalled last week by MAPAQ," declared Mr. Vinet.

    Three conclusive tests

After completing its tests, the CFIA found no trace of the Listeria
monocytogenes bacteria at our plant, nor in whole rounds of Riopelle de L'Isle
and Tomme de Grosse Ile cheeses that were analyzed. All tests conducted by the
CFIA at the plant and on products recalled following last week's incidents
turned out negative.
In addition, MAPAQ also obtained negative results on all tested whole
cheese rounds recalled from two regional sales points.
Test results from Laboratoires d'analyse S.M., hired by the cheesemaker,
also turned out to be negative regarding the cheesemaking plant, its
environment and the Riopelle de L'Isle and Tomme de Grosse-Ile cheeses.
"Producers, employees and managers alike all share the same concern for
consumers' health, safety and peace of mind. Today, we can now affirm beyond
doubt that all production processes and controls we apply are truly and
perfectly efficient. Consumers can safely trust our products," stated
Mr. Vinet.

    Relief within the community

L'Isle-aux-Grues cheeses are very popular and recognized for their great
taste and quality. The entire community of L'Isle-aux-Grues is delighted to
learn that the products made at its cheesemaking facility will again be
offered to appreciative consumers. "We hope consumers will acknowledge the
fact that the local contamination discovered last week on open rounds of
cheese in two identified stores was but an isolated and unfortunate occurrence
that never resulted from an issue with our plant or our production processes,"
added Mr. Vinet.
Fromagerie de L'Isle-aux-Grues is the economic driver of this community
with a population of 120 permanent residents. The future of this authentic
village is intricately linked with the reputation and quality of the cheese
products made there. "We will have to work hard at promoting our products if
we want to preserve the vitality of our economy for one thing, but also to
protect an island that is an important part of the Quebec heritage," concluded
the Fromagerie General Manager.
