National Residential School Survivor Society Press Release

    SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, June 17 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of NRSSS
welcomes the announcement of the three new commissioners to the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC). NRSSS is a national organization that is
composed of Indian Residential School survivors from all regions of Canada and
is mandated to advocating on behalf of their members interests and rights.
    The Board is pleased with the appointment of the Honourable Justice
Murray Sinclair as Chairperson and the appointments of Commissioners Marie
Wilson and Wilton Littlechild. NRSSS is committed to working cooperatively
with the TRC to ensure that as many survivors of the Indian Residential
Schools are given the opportunity to share publically about their IRS
experience. NRSSS is also encouraging  other Canadians to participate in the
TRC in hopes that the end result will be a true and lasting move towards
reconciliation whereby we can then move collectively beyond this dark segment
of Canada's history with the Indigenous people of this land.
