McGuinty Government Congratulates OPS On Being Named One Of Canada's Top
TORONTO, Oct. 2 /CNW/ -
The Ontario Public Service is one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2009.
This marks the first time a federal, provincial or territorial public
service has been selected to receive the national award, putting the Ontario
Public Service in the company of esteemed employers like Research in Motion
and Enbridge Inc.
The publishers of Canada's Top 100 Employers, Mediacorp Canada Inc.,
reviewed the recruitment history of 75,000 employers over a one-year period
and sent invitations to 16,000 organizations. More than 2,000 employers
applied to be considered as one of Canada's best employers.
Earlier this year, the OPS was named one of Canada's best diversity
employers for 2008, recognizing its public sector leadership in creating an
inclusive workplace for employees with disabilities.
"The Ontario Public Service is working hard to provide excellent, modern
public services. It is a great place for a career - I'm glad they are being
recognized," said Government Services Minister Ted McMeekin.
"We're working hard to make the public service an organization that meets
citizens' needs and a place where every employee is passionate about their
work. This award is really encouraging. It tells us we're on the right track
to becoming an employer of choice," said Secretary of the Cabinet and Head of
the Ontario Public Service Shelly Jamieson
- Mediacorp Canada Inc. evaluated organizations based on key areas such
as physical workplace, work atmosphere and communications, health
benefits, compensation, employee engagement, training and development
and community involvement.
- The Ontario Public Service completes more than 40 million
transactions with the public every year and operates in over 1,800
locations across Ontario.
