National Magazine Awards Foundation announces Paul Jones will host this year's awards gala on June 5

    TORONTO, May 21 /CNW/ - The Canadian magazine industry will gather in
Toronto on June 5, 2009 to celebrate the 32nd annual National Magazine Awards,
presented by CDS Global. Tickets are now on sale at
    The National Magazine Awards Foundation will present Gold, Silver and
Honourable Mention awards in 36 written, visual and integrated categories at
the gala on June 5 at The Carlu in Toronto. The NMAF will also recognize the
winners of this year's awards for Best Student Writer, Best New Magazine
Writer and Outstanding Achievement. The awards presentation will conclude with
the announcement of this year's recipient of the coveted award Magazine of the
Year. The three finalists for Magazine of the Year are AlbertaViews, Canadian
Business, and Spacing.
    This year's Master of Ceremonies for the National Magazine Awards gala is
Paul Jones. During 30 years with Maclean Hunter and Rogers, Paul Jones
published leading magazines and served as director of many organizations,
including the National Magazine Awards Foundation. He holds the highest
personal honour conferred by the Foundation, as well as a similar award from
the Advertising Club of Toronto. Since leaving corporate life, he has founded
the consultancy TK Advisors Inc., written an award-winning column for
Masthead, joined the board of Canada's National History Society, chaired the
Toronto branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society and earned accreditation as
a professional genealogist.
    The NMAF's most prestigious individual prize since its inception in 1990
is The Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement. This year the NMAF is
honoured to name Cynthia Brouse as the recipient for her exceptional

    At this year's National Magazine Awards gala, more than 300 nominees from
79 different Canadian magazines are up for awards in 36 categories. The most
nominated magazines are: The Walrus and L'actualité (28 nominations each),
Toronto Life (27), Maclean's (20), Report on Business (19), explore (16),
Chatelaine and Cottage Life (11 each), Maisonneuve and enRoute (10 each). Find
