National Council congratulates Minister



    Minister of Veterans Affairs

    OTTAWA, Aug. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - The National Council of Veteran
Associations (NCVA) today forwarded a congratulatory letter to the Honourable
Gregory Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, on the renewal of his
appointment to this important Cabinet post.
    In particular, the NCVA letter mentioned the establishment of an
Ombudsman which had been an election commitment by Prime Minister Stephen
Harper.
    Other successful endeavours carried out under the stewardship of Minister
Thompson include a new Veterans Charter for members of the peacekeeping
forces, as well as operating guidelines within the Department to ensure that
benefits for World War II and Korean veterans would continue to be
'grandfathered' under his guidance.
