MySpace Canada and Black Lips kick off NXNE Mainstage with a free show at Yonge-Dundas Square

TORONTO, June 15 /CNW/ - MySpace, the leading social portal in Canada, is
excited to announce details about its support of North by Northeast (NXNE),
Canada's premier festival showcasing new music and music-related film.
To kick off NXNE, MySpace will present a free concert at Yonge-Dundas
Square on Thursday, June 18, 2009, headlined by garage-rock bad kids, Black
Lips ( One of the most highly anticipated
acts of the festival, the Black Lips will be backed by a solid line-up,
featuring Toronto's Spiral Beach (,
eclectic Montrealer Xavier Cafeine (,
power-rocker Melissa Auf Der Maur (, and
explosive LA rockers Burning Brides (
"MySpace remains focused on growing and diversifying the Canadian music
community and sharing that experience with artists and fans," said Sue McGill,
Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Business Development, MySpace
Canada. "Whether it's through unprecedented opportunities to discover new
artists, or a chance for fans to see their favourite band live for the first
time, it's all about a shared love of music. We are thrilled by our existing
partnership with NXNE, as it shares those same values."

Free Guitar Clinic with the Black Lips at SKETCH

In addition to the free concert, MySpace will partner with the Black Lips
to host a free guitar clinic on June 18 for the youth of SKETCH, a community
arts initiative for street-involved and homeless youth, offering them tools to
engage in the arts, a safe place to create and express, and opportunities to
integrate back into community life. As self-taught musicians, with the
ultimate "do it yourself" attitude, the band represents a story and message
many of the aspiring artists at SKETCH will connect with.
"We are genuinely excited about having the band do something a little bit
different and interact with fans in a way that is meaningful," said Nina
Sudra, Manager for VICE Music in Canada. "Hopefully, the Black Lips' story
will be an inspiration to the aspiring musicians at SKETCH, as the band began
to pursue their career as teenagers, doing it all on their own."

    NXNE Showcase

To round out the festival, MySpace will present its own NXNE showcase at
the legendary El Mocambo Tavern on Saturday, June 20, 2009. The diverse roster
for this year's showcase includes performances by British Columbians
(, Young Rival
(, Novillero (, Band of
Skulls (, In-Flight Safety
