MTS Allstream Enterprise Solutions Division president John A. MacDonald to retire, effective December 1, 2008

    WINNIPEG, MB, Oct. 1 /CNW/ - Effective December 1, 2008, John A.
MacDonald, president of MTS Allstream's Enterprise Solutions division, will
retire after six years with the company, concluding a 30-year career as a
senior executive and highly regarded leader in the Canadian telecommunications
    The Enterprise Solutions division, which operates under the Allstream
brand nationally, is a leading competitor in national business and wholesale
telecommunications markets.
    "John has been a valued and important contributor - a real leader - in
our success in recent years in building momentum and renewed competitiveness
into our national enterprise business," said Pierre Blouin, Chief Executive
Officer. "I will miss his words of wisdom and his passion for the business. On
behalf of the company and the Board of Directors, I want to thank John for his
contributions and wish him continued success and happiness as he retires from
MTS Allstream."

    Mr. Blouin said that a formal executive search is underway to replace Mr.
MacDonald, noting that he is working closely with Mr. MacDonald on the
transition to new leadership for the Enterprise Solutions division. "One thing
is clear, John and I, together, have worked to build the management bench
strength of our national enterprise business. The transition to a new
president should be accomplished without any disruption to the business
    After beginning his career as an engineer at the New Brunswick telephone
company NB Tel, Mr. MacDonald progressed up the management ranks to become
president. Among his other senior executive positions during a period of rapid
change and innovation in the industry were: chief technology officer and chief
operating officer of Bell Canada, and president and chief operating officer of
AT&T Canada, a predecessor company to Allstream, which merged with Manitoba
Telecom Services in 2004.
