your biking gear because In Town Without My Car! day is right around the
corner and Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) wants you to have fun, and do your
part! On Thursday, September 20th, MEC invites you to take action during the
city's fifth edition of the car-free day in Montreal!
"MEC is determined to protect the environment and promote self-propelled
alternative transportation to reduce the harmful effects of greenhouse gases
in Montreal and in Quebec. We are proud to be involved in this year's In Town
Without My Car! day and look forward to greeting the public at our kiosk!"

Walk, ride or use public transportation to get to town and visit the MEC
kiosk between 10 AM and 2 PM to get a free minor bike tune-up or cycle your
energy to make your very own smoothie with the help of our revolutionary Bike
Blender! Answer the on-site quiz and have the chance to win great prizes,
including backpacks and water bottles every fifteen minutes. In addition, MEC
will also be offering trips in cycle rickshaws so that you can visit all areas
of the In Town Without My Car! day perimeter with ease.
To show their true commitment to the event, MEC employees participating
in the event will be biking from the MEC store at Marché Central to the kiosk
located downtown at the corner of Ste-Catherine street and Union.
About In Town Without My Car! day
In Town Without My Car! day is an event organized by the Agence
métropolitaine de transport (AMT), in collaboration with a number of partners,
including MEC. As a sponsor, MEC has provided shirts for the volunteers and
numerous prizes including a full biking accessories kit worth $1,000.
A full day of activities has been organized including a free concert,
three different themed areas and a number of informational kiosks. The
perimeter will be closed to traffic from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM between
de Maisonneuve and René-Lévesque, and McGill College and Saint-Urbain.
Montreal is one of 1,500 cities participating in the event.
