Montreal Newcomer Competes With Toronto and New York in The International Telecommunication Infrastructure Market With Five Data Centres

    MONTREAL, Jan. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Canix Colo Inc. ("Canix"), a neutral
collocation infrastructure provider, today announces the official opening of a
fourth and fifth neutral data centres with a total area of 25,500 square feet
Canix's President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Stéphane Côté, stated:
"We are positioning Canix as a world leader in neutral collocation, and in the
process turning Montreal into a business hub for international
telecommunication infrastructures. Apart from the profitable business
relationship we have built with Canadian partners such as Bell Canada, Telus
and Videotron, we've attracted to Montreal some of the top world
telecommunication carriers including Cogent, Level 3, Hibernia Atlantic and
Tiscali, thus greatly benefiting our collocation customers in our neutral data
centres. We are now able to compete with New York and Toronto based companies
in this market."
The first of the two brand new data centres, called Canix IV, is located
at 7171 Jean-Talon Street East, in Montreal's Anjou borough and is covering
12,000 square feet. The other data centre, known as Canix V, has a total
surface area of 12,500 square feet strategically divided over two buildings
located at 2341 and 2351 Alfred Nobel blvd. in Montreal's St-Laurent borough.
The two buildings are linked through a passageway and are part of the
Innovation Place, one of the most prestigious technological sites in
Technoparc Montreal.
These two new facilities, located for Canix IV in Eastern Montreal and
for Canix V in the city's western part, are consistent with Canix's strategy
to provide customers with a geographically diverse coverage allowing customers
to set up robust and adequate contingency plans using dark fiber between our
five data centres. The two new facilities are also the cornerstone of the
company's strategy to meet the growing needs of its prestigious and diverse
customer base and to provide an environment that can meet ever increasing
power and cooling requirements of customers and telecommunication partners
With a power capacity of about 6 Megawatts between the two new
facilities, Canix can now rely on a total capacity of more than 12 Megawatts,
demonstrating the company's clear commitment to meeting its customers'
evolving requirements for the long term.
As with all Canix data centres, the two new facilities will be operated
based on the highest infrastructure standards, not to mention Canix's constant
focus on delivering "green" solutions that are both responsible and innovative
in reducing environmental impacts. They will be equipped with emergency
generators of appropriate capacity, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), and
air-cooling systems using state-of-the-art technology and the latest
principles guiding the operation of "green" data centres. All of which is
provided with a minimum N+1 redundancy. Canix will also implement innovative
security measures, complementing 24/7 monitoring and security personnel at the
Canix is growing steadily and continues to assert itself as the
uncontested leader in the neutral collocation market in Eastern Canada. The
two new data centres also complement those of Nun's Island, strategically
located just outside of downtown Montreal, and of the prestigious IBM tower,
which provides 32,000 square feet of collocation space in downtown Montreal
and is indisputebly one of the most robust and best located data centres in
Canix also announces that it will soon complete a significant investment
program to turn its five data centres into best-in-class facilities in the
Canadian collocation market.
Going forward, Canix will continue to grow in the coming months at the
same blazing pace it has kept ever since it was established in 2003. Committed
to offering data processing centres that meet the most stringent requirements
in terms of operational and environmental performance to serve its diverse and
prestigious customers, the company expects to increase the total surface area
of its data centres by another 100,000 square feet over the next 24 months,
through an innovative concept of high density data centre.
