Montreal Fashion Week takes new strides in promoting Canadian design

MONTREAL, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - October 14th marks the kick off of Montreal
Fashion Week (MFW), Canada's largest event of its type and third largest in
North America. This season, MFW is furthering its commitment to designers by
presenting opportunities to expand into new markets, to solidify their
businesses and to promote their labels by welcoming more than 200 national and
international buyers and 300 media with the assistance of the Government of
Québec. Spanning the breadth of our national landscape, selected participants
will include: Alberta-born Evan Biddell, winner of the Project Runway Canada
competition; Toronto based Lucian Matis; emerging Vancouver star Katherine
Soucie and Calgary native Travis Taddeo. "MFW unites some of the most
influential decision makers in the country," says Paul-Arthur Huot, Chief
Representative, Bureau du Québec in Toronto. "We are thrilled to help bring
together the buyers and the media that will give our Canadian talent the
opportunity to grow their business by expanding into untapped markets within
our own backyard."
The fall/winter program will generate networking events as well as
one-on-one meetings where designers can meet influencers in Le Showroom, an
exclusive exhibit which hosts the collections of more than 100 labels. This
initiative is a unique business-to-business environment that provides
designers a space to conduct business. "It is becoming increasingly important
that designers are given the support they need to build profitable and
sustainable businesses and it is our hope that through our continued efforts
we will help them to receive the recognition they deserve in order to compete
at a national and international level," notes Jean-François Daviau,
Co-President of Sensation Mode, producers of MFW.
