President of Toys"R"Us, Canada Tapped to Lead Company's Japanese
WAYNE, NJ, Oct. 29 /CNW/ - Today, Toys"R"Us, Inc. announced that Monika
Merz has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer for Toys"R"Us, Japan,
effective November 15. Ms. Merz currently serves as President, Toys"R"Us,
Canada. In her new role, Ms. Merz will be responsible for all aspects of the
company's owned and franchised operations in Japan. She will report to Kei
Kodera, Representative Director, Chairman and President, Toys"R"Us, Japan, and
will be based in Tokyo.
Claire Babrowski, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President
for Toys"R"Us, Inc. said, "Monika is a highly regarded leader, whose

business. Under her leadership in Canada, Monika's team developed new store

Ms. Merz joined Toys"R"Us, Inc. in October 1996 as Vice President and
General Merchandise Manager for Toys"R"Us, Canada. In this capacity, she
oversaw all aspects of merchandising and marketing for the company's Canadian
operations. In 2000, she was promoted to President of Toys"R"Us, Canada, where
she helped expand the Canadian business to 67 locations.
