OAKVILLE, ON, Aug. 24 /CNW/ - With the help of MOLLY MAID and their
customers it was Christmas in July for many food banks across Canada. During
the month of July, MOLLY MAID customers participated in a food drive to help
replenish the stocks at food banks. This is a time of year that the food banks
are easily forgotten and therefore in greater need of donations. In total,
over 9,000 pounds of food were donated to food banks in communities serviced
by MOLLY MAID.
Statistics from the Canadian Association of Food Banks show that close to
750,000 people turn to a food bank for food supplies each month across Canada.
Forty-one per cent of food recipients are children and estimates suggest that
up to thirty-four per cent of food banks have trouble meeting demand.
Cathy Deacon, MOLLY MAID Franchise Owner servicing Langley, British
Columbia states, "We are grateful for the response we've had and we want to
thank all of our customers who gave so generously. We are pleased that we
could play a small role in helping our customers help those who are so
desperately in need."
The food drive was such a success that MOLLY MAID will continue to make
it an annual event to assist the thousands of Canadians who are unable to
provide food for their families.
