Mobilisation and Student Actions: This is only the beginning! - Montreal students show their opposition to the Liberals' tuition increase

    MONTREAL, Nov. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Montreal Regional Student
Coalition (CREM) is initiating action by calling the Liberal MNAs for the
Montreal region as a means to denounce the tuition fee increase imposed by
their government.
    In fact, students from the greater Montreal will be contacting Quebec
Liberal MNAs in order to reaffirm their opposition to this draconian measure.
"The Minister of education seems to believe that the protest against the
tuition fee increase is over. Today, we are calling the Liberal MNAs to warn
them that it is only the beginning", said Jamil Auclair-Karmane, External
Affairs Coordinator for the Association générale des étudiants do Collège de
Rosemont (AGECRo)
    In addition, the students united within the CREM will seize this
opportunity to remind Liberal MNAs of the harmful consequences this measure
will have on Québec students. "The tuition defreeze solves in now way the
current underfunding of our universities and over 30% of the students on
financial assistance will suffer from an increased debt load" reminds
Erica Jabouin, Vice-president External Affairs for the Concordia Student Union

    The Montreal Regional Student Coalition (CREM) includes members from all
levels of postsecondary education. It regroups over 80 500 students from
cegeps and universities in the Montreal region. The CREM actively militates to
denounce the tuition defreeze as applied by the Liberal government.
