Mitec Announces $2.7M Contract with Major Chinese Telecom Provider

MONTREAL, Feb. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - Mitec Telecom Inc. (TSX: MTM) announced
today a series of purchase orders for its mobile wireless Interference
Mitigation Filters totaling $2.7 million from a major Chinese Telecom
provider. The equipment from Mitec will be used in a South American network
expansion. Deliveries are expected to take place over the next three to six
"This win represents Mitec's continued growth in sales from this product
line as well as our first major win for these products in emerging markets,"
said Dan Piergentili, Mitec's Chief Executive Officer. "Mitec's strategy is
working - we are introducing new technologies to our customer base, opening
new markets and establishing ourselves as a credible supplier for large scale
telecommunications initiatives."
Mitec's Interference Mitigation Filters provide operators of existing
networks the ability to co-locate services of different wireless standards on
the same utility tower. As future network expansion is often difficult to
predict, frequency coordination for expansion is often a problem for
operators. For telecommunications companies looking to increase subscriber
capacity at co-located service sights, the increased capacity requires
additional bandwidth usage in order to handle the traffic, and creates
frequency interference. Mitec's Interference Mitigation Filters can be
deployed to minimize frequency interference between services. This type of
network interference is especially pronounced in densely populated urban
centers in regions of Europe, South America and Asia.
As part of Mitec's Operator Solutions product line in the mobile wireless
market, Interference Mitigation Filters address "after-market" expansion to
existing telecommunications networks. Instead of increasing the number of
towers in a given area, at ever-increasing construction and real estate
leasing costs, telecom operators are looking to Mitec for innovative product
solutions such as Interference Mitigation Filters to maximize use of existing
network infrastructure - ensuring the provision of excellent service at
minimal additional infrastructure cost.
"This announcement is further evidence of the market's appetite for
Mitec's innovative products. We continue to demonstrate strong momentum within
the global telecommunications markets and are well positioned as the wireless
and satellite component provider of choice," commented Jeffrey Mandel, Mitec's
Lead Director responsible for Investor and Market Relations. "Today's
announcement, combined with a number of other recently announced contracts,
are proof that the industry understands Mitec's offerings and achievements."
