OTTAWA, March 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of
Health, is pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Warner La Forest to the
Patented Medicines Prices Review Board (PMPRB) for a five-year term.
"I am confident that Ms. Warner La Forest will be a strong asset to the
Patented Medicines Prices Review Board. The wealth of experience that she
brings to the Board will help Canadians get access to affordable and quality
healthcare," said Minister Clement.
Anne Warner La Forest is currently a law professor at the University of
New Brunswick. Ms. Warner La Forest has also served as Arbitrator in the
province of Nova Scotia as well as Commissioner of the province's Human Rights
Commission. She has a keen interest in property, human rights and corporate
and commercial law.
Ms. Warner La Forest has published many articles, books and case comments
during her illustrious career and has been the chair or has served as a
panellist at many national and international law conferences. She holds an
honours degree in International law from Cambridge University in the
The Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB) is an independent
quasi-judicial body established by Parliament in 1987 under the Patent Act.
The PMPRB has a dual role to protect consumers and contribute to Canadian
health care by ensuring that prices charged by manufacturers for patented
medicines are not excessive and to contribute to informed decisions and policy
making by reporting on pharmaceutical trends and on the research and
development spending by pharmaceutical patentees.
