Millions of Ahmadis across the world celebrate the 119th anniversary of the founding of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at

    TORONTO, March 28 /CNW/ - March 23rd marked the day on which tens of
millions of Ahmadi Muslims across the world celebrated the 119th anniversary
of the founding of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. It was on this
day in 1889 when the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi, Hadrat Mirza Ghulam
Ahmad (peace be upon him) established a dynamic and peace loving community of
    From a humble beginning of around 40 members, the Community has grown
into tens of millions of members who reside in over 180 countries.
    Members of the community strives towards the betterment of society by
engaging in and promoting interfaith dialogue, philanthropy, publishing
religious literature, constructing mosques and community centers, and
providing educational and healthcare facilities. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is
widely honoured as a peaceful and law-abiding community that lives in
accordance with its motto, "Love for All, Hatred for None." It firmly believes
in and acts upon the Qur'anic teaching: "There is no compulsion in religion,"
(2:257) and strongly rejects violence and terrorism in any form and for any
    To commemorate this event, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Canada held events
throughout the country in various centres. Thousands of members across Canada
attended such events where the advent, life, and the work of the Promised
Messiah were remembered. Members and elders elaborated on his message of peace
and harmony for humanity as well have his love for the Holy Prophet Muhammad
(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him).
    These festivities took a special meaning as 2008 also marks the 100 year
anniversary (1908-2008) of establishment of successorship to the Promised
    Throughout 2008, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at is hosting events to
commemorate this unique achievement in history of Islam. Some of these events,
to be hosted across Canada, are as follows:

    1.  All year - Congregations to commemorate the life of the Holy Prophet
        Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him);
    2.  May 27: Centenary Khilafat Week commemorating the advent and
        achievements of each Khalifa (successor) of the Promised Messiah;
    3.  June 27-29: Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) Canada 2008;
    4.  Banquets; City declarations; and many more events
