    SEATTLE, Jan. 9 /CNW/ - MicroPlanet, (MP:TSXV & MCTYF:OTC) a clean
technology, energy conservation company, announced today that Alan H.
Richardson has been appointed as a director, subject to approval of the TSX
Venture Exchange.
    Mr. Richardson recently concluded a distinguished career with the
American Public Power Association, where he served the last 12 years as
President and CEO. The American Public Power Association is the national
service organization that represents the interests of the nation's nearly 2000
locally owned, publicly controlled electric utilities. Mr. Richardson holds a
Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Bucknell University (1968) and a Juris
Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Michigan School of Law (1971). As
President of the APPA, Mr. Richardson led a team of 65 professionals whose
mission was to provide superior professional representation, information and
other services necessary to help public power systems excel in a changing
business, legislative and regulatory environment. He is a published author and
has addressed national and international audiences on electric utility issues
and industry market structure. He has also testified before U.S. House and
Senate committees and administrative agencies, including the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission on issues affecting the electrical utility industry in
general and public power in particular. Mr. Richardson founded and nurtured
APPA's for-profit subsidiary, Hometown Connections LLC, whose mission has been
and is to consolidate public power's collective purchasing power in the
marketplace to make individual public power systems more attractive to vendors
of products and services and to provide such vendors enhanced access to the
nation's 2000 publicly owned and locally controlled public power systems. He
is currently the Chair, Advisor Committee of Eka Systems, a high-tech
communications company that has developed both hardware and software solutions
for the development and deployment of a smart grid.
