TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW), a
Canadian international charity dedicated to providing bedkits (bedding,
clothing, school supplies and mosquito nets) to children living in
underdeveloped countries, will be hosting its first Pinehurst Club breakfast.
Held today, Wednesday, April 29, the event will help raise operational funds
for SCAW to sustain the organization's strength as it continues its vital work
with the neediest children of the world.
At the event, SCAW, chaired by former NHL goalie Dave Dryden, will be
honouring 2009 as the Year of the One Millionth Bedkit and will feature an
inspirational keynote from Michael "Pinball" Clemons, CEO of the Toronto
Argonauts football team. More than 500 tickets have been purchased by
businesses to attend the inaugural event, sponsored by TD Commercial Banking.
Operational funding has been provided from a Legacy Account, started by
founders Murray and Margaret Dryden, parents of NHL hockey legends Ken and
Dave Dryden. Due to the increasing number of bedkits distributed annually this
Legacy Account needs to be strengthened. Supporters initiated The Pinehurst
Club to help grow the charity's Legacy Account and "Keep the Dream Alive".
Since SCAW's founding in 1970, the charity has raised more than $22
million to provide bedkits for more than one million children in 33 countries.
For every $35 SCAW bedkit donation, 100 per cent reaches a needy child. For
