Pre-Owned sales also generate record sales for August
TORONTO, Sept. 5 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada today announced the best
ever August result for its Mercedes-Benz passenger and light truck sales, with
a total of 1,196 units or an increase of 4.1% for the month compared to last
year's August. On a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz sales are now ahead by
almost 1,000 units, at 10,448 units or an increase of 10.5%.
Together with smart sales, a total of 1,373 units were delivered for the
month of August. On a year-to-date basis, combined Mercedes-Benz and smart
sales amounted to 12,578 units, ahead by 652 units or 5.5%.
A total of 177 smart fortwos were sold in August. This basically
accounted for most of the remaining first generation smart fortwos in Canadian
dealerships. As it stands now, there are only a handful of cars left to be
sold across the country. The second generation smart will arrive for delivery
in early November. Since there is virtually no inventory left in showrooms,
the focus is now actively being turned towards pre-selling the next generation
models and presenting the first 2008 demonstrators.
Since the 2007 C-Class models are also almost all sold out and the 2008
models are only just starting to arrive in showrooms, the B-Class, E-Class and
S-Class garnered a huge amount of sales in August. The B-Class was up 74.8%
while the S-Class posted an impressive gain of 91.7% for the month.
On the light truck side, a total of 342 M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class
were delivered in August of which 42% were CDI diesel models. Year-to-date,
the light trucks accounted for a gain of 10.4% with a total of 2,645 units.
In the pre-owned division, a record 559 units were retailed in August. On
a year-to-date basis, a total of 4,219 units have been retailed, for an
improvement of 310 or 7.9% over the same time period 2006.
Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada said, "We
are extremely happy with the record August sales, especially when you take
into consideration that two very important volume contributors, namely the
C-Class and the smart fortwo, were significantly inventory-poor this month.
The fabulous next generation All-New 2008 C-Class is now starting to arrive in
showrooms. While the first generation smart fortwo is almost sold out, the
second generation 2008 smart fortwo will be ready for delivery in early
November. The pre-selling has been brisk; the experience with long waiting
lists for the smart fortwo has not been forgotten."
Mr. Breitschwerdt added, "Needless to say that both, Mercedes-Benz
dealerships and smart centres, are handling a huge influx of inquiries and are
processing pre-sold orders for the outstanding new 2008 models. The
2008 standard equipment for our entire product line is now more competitive
than ever and we know that this will not go unnoticed by customers and
prospects. I encourage you to have a look at our web configurator at
www.mercedes-benz.ca; even a cursory glance will ascertain the fact."
