Mercedes-Benz Canada shatters existing sales benchmarks to report the company's best month and best first quarter results ever

TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada reported today that a record-breaking total of 3,288 Mercedes-Benz and smart units were delivered to customers throughout the month. This represents a 9.9% increase compared to March 2010, shattering numerous all-time sales records and establishing March as the best sales month in the company's history. Year-to-date sales are ahead by 205 units or 3.1%, which represents the best first quarter results ever for the Mercedes-Benz Canada group.

A total of 2,909 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks were retailed in March. This is the best month ever for the Mercedes-Benz brand and further accounts for an 8.1% increase compared to March 2010. Total passenger car and luxury light truck sales were up 11.7% and 2.1% respectively for the month, with a grand total of 6,133 vehicles retailed on a year-to-date basis at the end of the first quarter.

Strong C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLK-Class, M-Class and GL-Class model sales contributed to March's success. The C-Class and GL-Class achieved significant sales growth in March, with both models recording their best all-time sales ever with a total of 1,082 and 166 units retailed respectively. In addition, the S-Class continued to lead the high-end luxury segment with a month-over-month sales increase of 21.7%.

The diesel take rate for luxury light trucks was 73.8% for the month, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 74.1% of overall passenger car and light truck sales (excluding smart).

smart reported a total of 126 vehicles sold in March.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter sales continued to grow exponentially in March with a total of 253 units delivered.

Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned sales reported their best month in history with 1,116 vehicles retailed. This represents an increase of 232 units or 26.2% on a monthly basis, and propels year-to-date sales to 2,410 units. At the end of the first quarter, Pre-Owned sales are ahead 25.5% or 490 units compared to the first quarter of 2010.
