Mercedes-Benz sales were up by 8.1% in September
TORONTO, Oct. 2 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada announced today that its
Mercedes-Benz September results were the best ever recorded at a total of
1,329 units which also resulted in the best 3rd quarter with 3,701 units,
ahead by 15%. The company also recorded a best year-to-date with a gain of
Since the smart inventory is virtually sold out while dealers and
customers wait for the arrival of the second generation smart scheduled to
arrive in Canada in early November, only 31 smart were retailed in September.
Nevertheless, on a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz and smart sales are now
ahead by 591 units or a gain of 4.4% accounting for a record-breaking nine
months of 13,938 units.
Mercedes-Benz passenger car sales were tallied at 961 units for a strong
September, up by 105 units or a gain 12.3%. On a year-to-date basis,
Mercedes-Benz passenger car sales reached their highest level ever at 8,764
units - yet another record - ahead by 853 units or 10.8%.
Most models performed extremely well this month. In particular, the
B-Class, E-Class, M-Class and GL-Class results were noteworthy. Collectively,
these models showed a total of 873 units versus the 675 units sold in 2006; a
gain of 29% against last September sales. The E-Class BLUETEC diesel
represented 20% of the E-Class sales.
On a year-to-date basis, a total of 50% of Mercedes-Benz models purchased
were equipped with the award-winning Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC(TM) permanent
all-wheel-drive system that delivers optimal traction, whatever the road
condition, for maximum confidence and handling control. Mercedes-Benz offers
the broadest selection of 4MATIC(TM) sedans (C, E and S-Class) and SUV's (M,
GL, R and G-Class) in Canada.
On the luxury light truck side, the M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class
produced 368 deliveries for the month; close to 50% of the units were diesel
models. On a year-to-date basis, 3,013 light trucks were retailed in the first
9 months, up by 244 units or an increase of 8.8%.

I look back so far this year, we have broken sales records in eight of the
nine months. September was again a solid month and I was especially thrilled
to deliver the first All-New 2008 C-Class models this month. We are extremely
pleased with the huge level of acceptance for this vehicle across the country
as the pre-sold orders soar; we expect significant sales over the course of
the next months."
He added, "For high volume smart sales, we will have to wait until the
next generation of smart fortwos arrives in November. The B-Class, our E-Class
and S-Class sedans as well as all of our SUVs continued to perform quite
strongly and contributed to another record-breaking month, a best third
quarter and best year-to-date results ever."
