MEOW Foundation Hosts Purr-fect Party

CALGARY, April 30 /CNW/ - The MEOW Foundation hosted its spring gala and
brunch yesterday to raise funds and awareness for the treatment and adoption
of abandoned cats in Calgary. The event took place at the Triwood Community
Centre in northwest Calgary and once again was a sold out event with
200 supporters turning up to enjoy a delicious brunch buffet prepared by
professional chefs.
All guests, including Alderman Craig Burrows and Bill Bruce, director -
City of Calgary Animal & By-Law Services, also enjoyed the melodies of
Quintessence, a woodwind quintet ensemble that featured the colourful sounds
of the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and horn in a wide variety of musical
styles. Wine tasting, a variety of silent auction items including art,
jewellery and gift certificates for accommodation, dinner and pampering,
raffles and of course MEOW Merchandise rounded out the afternoon.
"The MEOW Gala is the Foundation's biggest fundraising event of the year
and is also extremely timely given that it is kitten season and there are so
many unwanted kittens being born everyday," says Debbie Nelson, MEOW's
operations director. "Our shelter continues to operate at full capacity year
round and we're unable to take in any new animals until we find some of our
cats and/or kittens loving 'parents'," explains Nelson. "Not only do we want
and need to find these animals' homes, but it's a costly time for our
organization, as the number of cats and kittens increase so do the associated
vet bills and food costs."
Anyone interested in adopting from MEOW can visit Millrise Pet Planet or
Brentwood Pet Planet on May 12 where MEOW cats and kittens who are looking for
homes will be 'interviewing potential new parents'. "You can support our
organization by adopting an animal, providing a donation or just visiting us
at our many displays including Millrise and Brentwood Pet Planet stores and
showing your support. These efforts will all help MEOW 'give a survivor a
second chance'," says Nelson.

MEOW Foundation is a non-profit, no-kill organization that facilitates
the adoption of abandoned cats in the Calgary area. MEOW is a federally
registered charity, and Foundation services are powered by volunteers. MEOW
has successfully adopted out close to 3000 cats since the year 2000 and is
always caring for 100-200 cats and kittens.
