PEC-ME First Element in New Global Strategy
ABU DHABI, UAE and DALLAS, March 15 /CNW/ -- Meeting Professionals
International (MPI) announced today at the 2007 Gulf Incentive, Business
Travel & Meetings Exhibition (GIBTM) in Abu Dhabi that MPI would launch a
Professional Education Conference-Middle East (PEC-ME) in April 2008 in Dubai
immediately preceding GIBTM.
"PEC-ME will deliver an educational and networking experience that will
attract MPI members from all over the world, connecting provocative meetings-
industry knowledge to people and cultures from across the planet," said MPI
President and CEO Bruce MacMillan. "We are committed to connecting our members
to the opportunities and knowledge that already exist in the Middle East and
also to the ones that are about to emerge."
The UAE has invested billions of dollars (U.S.) in meetings industry
infrastructure over the past five years, including the development of 35 five-
star hotels and some of the world's largest exhibition facilities, the Abu
Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and Exhibition City, with more than three
million square feet of space.
The announcement of PEC-ME is the first element of a new global strategy,
recently approved by the MPI International Board of Directors, further
focusing MPI on building a global meetings industry community that provides
meeting professionals with lifetime pathways to success.
"The Global Strategy Committee created a vision that positions MPI as a
truly global resource for our members and sustains its industry leadership
role," said Mary Casey, MPI Global Strategy Committee member and vice
president, strategic account management, Starwood Hotels and Resorts
Worldwide. "PEC-ME further establishes MPI in this growing marketplace
delivering tremendous benefits to all our members."
MPI also announced its first two partners in PEC-ME for 2008, Reed Travel
Exhibitions and MCI. "These partners will help our community reach out to the
growing number of meeting professionals who have interests in the Middle East
and provide them with access to the education, ideas and relationships that
can only be found in the industry's largest global community," said Didier
Scaillet, MPI's vice president of global development.
PEC-ME is expected to be financially self-sustaining in its first year.
More information on MPI's global strategy will be released next week
during the MPI Professional Education Conference-Europe in Copenhagen, March
