Media statement from Elections Ontario regarding polls at college campuses

TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2011 /CNW/ - Due to the recent labour issues at Ontario's colleges and uncertainty regarding the use of college facilities, Elections Ontario has decided to relocate, not cancel, the advance polls and election day polls planned for all college campuses affected by the service disruption.

This decision is necessary to ensure that the security, integrity and accessibility of the electoral process is preserved for all electors. We are currently working to transfer these polls to other accessible locations within the electoral district.

Students attending college still have many options to cast their ballot.  Students may vote in one of the other advance polls offered in the electoral district or at their own poll on election day.  Alternatively, students may request a Special Ballot Kit and vote by mail. Finally, they may vote at their local returning office over a period of 28 days that began on September 8.

The advance polls and election day polls on university campuses will proceed as planned.
