Being amputees from birth isn't stopping Clémence Mainville, 6, and
Camille Chai, 19, from joining their friends in the swimming pool with the
help of artificial limbs provided by The War Amps.
Today (Friday, April 24) at 10:30 am, during the session Disability vs
Dreams... Dreams Win Everytime!, which is the opening event of the CHAMP
Seminar, Clémence and Camille will demonstrate their waterproof swimming legs.
Other Champs will also take part. Philippe Monette, 7, a right arm
amputee, will show his various devices for biking, hockey and catching balls,
while Félix-Antoine Huard, 17, and Marie-Marie Allard, 19, both left arm
amputees, will show their weight lifting devices.
Sessions will be held throughout the seminar dealing with the latest
developments in artificial limbs, body image and the importance of amputees
staying active. CHAMP Graduate Marie Beaumont will also share her many
positive experiences and explain how she has overcome her amputation to enjoy
life to the fullest.
The War Amps holds seminars to provide Champs and their families with
valuable information, personal encouragement, and the opportunity to meet
other amputee youngsters. According to CHAMP Director Louis Bourassa, a right
leg amputee from accident, seminars are part of the Winner's Circle
philosophy, which encourages Champs to take a positive approach in all their
activities and endeavours. They learn, "It's what's left that counts!"
