Media Invitation - Monday, September 15, at 1 p.m. in the Salon Vert at Place des Arts - A unique chance to meet renowned conductor Zubin Mehta, former music director of the OSM

MONTREAL, Sept. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal
is happy to invite media representatives to come and meet renowned conductor
Zubin Mehta at a press briefing on September 15 at 1 p.m. in the Salon Vert at
Place des Arts.
Music director of the OSM from 1961 to 1967, Maestro Mehta returns to
Montreal to celebrate the 75th season of the Orchestra with a non-series
concert taking place on September 17 at Notre-Dame Basilica. It will be
remembered that the Mehta years were a period of great excitement at the OSM:
first European tour in 1962, inauguration of Place des Arts the following
year, expansion of the Orchestra's repertoire to include contemporary
composers, first opera productions... The population of Montreal responded
with enthusiasm to the young conductor's charisma.
Subsequent to his mandate with the OSM, Zubin Mehta enjoyed a flourishing
international career and is today widely considered one of the most important
conductors on the scene, a guest of the most preeminent orchestras and opera
houses. His rare visit to Montreal is at the heart of the celebrations marking
the OSM's 75th anniversary.
