Media invitation - Miracle at The Children's - Five month old defies the odds - His heart was failing, it was nearly dead, the baby was put on a heart lung machine, then on an artificial heart and then... His heart started to work again!

MONTREAL, June 8 /CNW Telbec/ - His parents call it a miracle. His
doctors are amazed. The five-month-old beat the odds. He was sent to the ER at
The Children's because he was not growing or putting on weight. The doctors at
The Children's found that his heart function was extremely poor - it was
almost not working. Without help he had hours or days to live. He was put on a
heart lung machine and then an artificial heart awaiting a heart transplant -
his only chance of survival. But then...his tiny heart began to work again.
"This is equivalent to flying to Mars, flying back to earth, and calling
home from the airport" says Dr. Rohlicek, cardiologist at The Montreal
Children's Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre.
This baby is the youngest and smallest baby in Canada, and one of a very
few in the world, to have survived and gone home with his own normally
functioning heart after temporary support with a heart lung machine and an
artificial heart. Even more amazing is that he does not seem to have suffered
any consequences of his ordeal and appears to be a normal little boy.
Come find out more about the amazing story of a little boy with the will
to survive.
