WHAT: Consumers can sample single malt Scotch, nibble on haggis and
enjoy spirited Highland dancing to celebrate the 250th birthday
of the great Scottish poet Robbie Burns, at the LCBO Summerhill
store, starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 24.
Piper Jack Jackson, attired as Burns, will parade the haggis
into the event kitchen of the store and deliver the poet's
immortal, 'Address to the Haggis.' Immediately following,
champion Highland dancers Kirsten Selvage and Kaitlin
Richardson of the Scottish Dance Company will perform
traditional Scottish flings, jigs and reels.
Bowmore Islay 12-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky,
anCnoc 12-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky and
Heather Cream, a malt whisky-based cream liquor, will be
featured at the tasting.
This year, Homecoming Scotland 2009, a year-long festival
organized by the Scottish government, is inviting all Scots
living abroad to return home for the 250th birthday of Robbie
Burns. For those who are unable to make the trip back, the LCBO
Summerhill tasting is an opportunity to raise a wee dram.
LCBO offers some 150 single malts and 40 blended Scotches
throughout its 605-store network and VINTAGES fine wine and
premium spirits sections.
LCBO single malt sales grew by 7.2 per cent in 2008 over the
previous year. The LCBO sells more than $35 million worth of
single malt Scotch whisky and more than $93 million worth of
blended Scotch whisky annually.
