Media Alert - Commentary available for the launch of Canada's Not Call (DNC) Registry

More than ever, direct mail is the right call

TORONTO, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - On September 30, millions of Canadians will be
saying "no" to telemarketers and "yes" to mail with the introduction of a
National Do Not Call (DNC) Registry. Designed to stop telemarketers from
making unwanted phone calls to households, companies that continue to
telemarket to registered households can be fined up to $15,000 per infraction.
In 2003, the United States introduced a National DNC Registry and the
response was staggering: Within the first few months, nearly 60 million
Americans had signed on to the Registry. As of September 2007, there were
145 million subscribers. The DNC Registry has taken more than $6 billion out
of telemarketing as a medium and moved 35 percent into direct mail.
As telemarketing use as a promotional medium is further limited,
companies will be forced to find new avenues to reach their customers and
prospects. As the world leader in mailstream technology, Pitney Bowes offers
direct mail solutions that help businesses create, produce, distribute, and
manage their flow of customer mail and documents.
If you're planning any stories to support the launch of Canada's DNC
Registry and want to speak with a third party representative, Deepak Chopra,
President, Pitney Bowes Canada, can provide insight on how the Registry will
impact Canadian small businesses.
