Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity - Canada's rising culinary stars stir things up at prestigious competition

    TORONTO, Jan. 30 /CNW/ - Students from three of Canada's top culinary
schools are sharpening their knives as they prepare to win big at the 2008
S.Pellegrino(TM) Almost Famous Chef(SM) Regional Competition in Toronto. The
aspiring chefs are vying for the chance to compete at the Finals Competition,
to be held in March at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Napa
Valley, where someone will be crowned Almost Famous Chef and receive
$10,000 US as well as an opportunity to work with a nationally-renowned chef.
    Members of the media are invited to attend this photo/interview
opportunity and find out who has what it takes to represent Canada at the
Finals Competition.

    VISUALS:  Who will handle the heat? Watch six competitors from Montréal's
              ITHQ (Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec), The
              International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Vancouver
              and host school Toronto's George Brown College heat up the
              kitchen in a quest to tickle the taste buds of the chef and
              media judges with their signature dishes. A trip to Napa Valley
              and a chance to claim the title of Almost Famous Chef is on the
              chopping board.

              The judges will evaluate the competitors on kitchen skills,
              taste, preparation and "x-factor," a criterion based on
              personality and general charisma.

    WHO:      Six culinary students selected from the top of their class to
              participate in the Canadian Regional Competition.

              Highly respected chef judges: Jason Rosso of The Distillery
              Restaurant Corp., Daniel Schick of Le Royal Meridien King
              Edward Hotel, Lynda Larouche of Watermark Restaurant on Kits
              Beach, and Frédéric St-Aubin of Club 357c.

              Distinguished media judges: Elizabeth Baird of Canadian Living
              Magazine, Dick Snyder of City Bites Magazine, Roseanna Caira of
              Foodservice & Hospitality

    WHEN:     Saturday February 2, from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
              Tasting Reception will take place from 12p.m. to 2p.m. at

    WHAT:     The S.Pellegrino(TM) Almost Famous Chef(TM) Competition was
              created in an effort to facilitate mentoring and communication
              between established celebrity chefs, media and groups of top
              culinary students poised to enter the ultra competitive
              culinary world. Through the program, the student chefs are able
              to gain recognition for their culinary skills, as well as their
              ability to communicate and perform under pressure.
              S.Pellegrino(R) Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, on behalf of
              Nestlé Waters Canada, has expanded its Canadian Regional
              Competition this year to include top culinary schools in
              Toronto, Montreal and, for the first time, Vancouver.
