    Toronto Astronomy Festival one of many special events taking place in

    TORONTO, Jan. 6 /CNW/ - Forty years after opening its doors as one of the
world's first interactive science museums, the Ontario Science Centre is
celebrating its 40th anniversary as Canada's largest museum-based education
program and a favourite attraction for more than a generation of visitors.
    To launch this 40th anniversary year, the Ontario Science Centre is
hosting the Toronto Astronomy Festival, celebrating the International Year of
Astronomy (IYA) and the 400th anniversary of the use of the telescope by
Galileo Galilei for astronomical discovery.
    The Science Centre will host many activities throughout 2009 in
conjunction with IYA, including a speakers' series, introductory astronomy
courses, free star parties, CONTACT astrophotography exhibition, and many more
special events. The City of Toronto will declare January 10th, 2009 as
"International Year of Astronomy Kick-Off Day in Toronto".
