    IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) has set its sights on
new and young workers in a safety awareness campaign aimed at drawing
attention to the alarming injury and death rates among young workers. Despite
efforts to reduce workplace accidents, injuries, and fatalities, the rates for
young workers continue unabated and their workplace experiences result -
too-often during the last six months - in newspaper headlines such as:
"Officials Identify Young Miner Worker Killed in Madoc, Ontario Talc Mine";
"Building collapse leaves Lindsay, Ontario man with life-threatening
injuries"; "Alberta Teen Killed in Forklift Accident"; and "Teenager Killed by
Hot Asphalt." To that end, IAPA is launching a campaign to raise awareness of
young worker safety and of the availability of young-worker health and safety
resources that can reduce injury and fatality rates. Scheduled to launch on
September 29, 2008 and coincide with the first day of "Healthy Workplace
Month", the IAPA campaign will take place throughout October and November
during a series IAPA regional conferences across the province - each one with
a young worker component/element.
