Media advisory: Fire Fighters Convene in Ottawa for 15th Annual Legislative Conference

    OTTAWA, April 20 /CNW Telbec/ - The International Association of Fire
Fighters (IAFF), the union representing 20,000 full-time fire fighters across
Canada, is convening its 15th Canadian Legislative Conference in the Algonquin
Room at the Delta Ottawa Hotel beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 23.

    The media are welcome to attend our Monday morning session and listen to
our guest speakers, who include:.

    - IAFF General President Harold A. Schaitberger
    - NDP Leader Jack Layton
    - Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day
    - Liberal MP and fire fighter Glen Pearson
    - Liberal Party Leader Stephane Dion

    Approximately 120 professional fire fighters from across Canada will be in
attendance. On Tuesday, April 24 the fire fighters will be conducting
individual lobby meetings with MPs on Parliament Hill. Fire fighters will be
asking the federal government to act in three areas of importance:

    - The establishment of a national Public Safety Officer Compensation
    - The establishment of a national office for fire service statistics
    - Canada Pension Plan reform for professional fire fighters
