TORONTO, July 9 /CNW/ - The JAYS CARE FOUNDATION, in partnership with
TORONTO COMMUNITY HOUSING, launches the 20th season of ROOKIE LEAGUE baseball
on THURSDAY, JULY 10 at 10:30 am at RIVERDALE PARK in Toronto. 400 lucky
children from 22 Toronto Community Housing units will play ball and spend
seven weeks learning the fundamentals of the sport!
To date, more than 10,000 children have benefited from the Rookie League
program. As a joint effort between the Toronto Blue Jays - Jays Care
Foundation and Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Rookie League brings
together 20 teams from Toronto Community Housing neighbourhoods to participate
in baseball clinics, learn valuable life-skills, and have fun playing
The full day event starts at 10:00 a.m. with an opening ceremony. Prior
to lunch, VERNON WELLS, along with several teammates and Jays mascot ACE, will
distribute baseball gloves to each of the participants. After lunch, the
participants will enjoy fun baseball clinics and games.
