Michael Ignatieff, leader of the Liberal Party and leader of the Official
Opposition, Gilles Duceppe, leader of the Bloc Québécois, and Bernard
Lord, president and CEO of the CWTA, are a few of the speakers who will
address the 150 delegates who are expected at the Teamsters Canada 10th
Convention, which will take place in Ottawa from June 8-11.
OTTAWA, June 9 /CNW Telbec/ - Teamsters Canada will hold its 10th
convention from June 8-11 at the Château Laurier in Ottawa. This year, the
convention theme is "Values - Vision - Action." These three key words
eloquently describe the role Teamsters Union representatives play in the daily
lives of their members, their families, and Canadians in general.
"Our convention will be an ideal time for all the officers of the local
unions affiliated with Teamsters Canada to get together and discuss the major
issues of the day," explained Robert Bouvier, president of Teamsters Canada.
"The economic situation is difficult and my point of view is that the union
movement has never been as relevant as in 2009."
Many special guests will come to speak about the values that underlie
their involvement, their vision of the modern world and of the future, and the
actions they take each day to improve the lives of their fellow citizens.
Among these guests, let us mention Michael Ignatieff, leader of the
Liberal Party and leader of the Official Opposition in Ottawa; Gilles Duceppe,
leader of the Bloc Québécois; Don Davies, the first member of the Teamsters
Union to be elected at the House of Commons; and of course James P. Hoffa,
general president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, as well as C.
Thomas Keegel, general secretary-treasurer of the IBT.
In addition, Jane Taber, a political journalist who writes for the Globe
and Mail and appears on CTV, will deliver a speech about the importance, for
unions, of being involved with the media. Alain Samson, a speaker who
specializes in the new realities of the labour market, will discuss his latest
book, "Mon équipe est multicolore mais je suis daltonien" with the delegates.
Bernard Lord, president and CEO of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications
Association, will also present his vision of Canada to convention attendees.
"Our guests come from very different backgrounds, which shows that our
organization is present-and influential-in all the spheres of activity of
Canadians' lives," noted the president of Teamsters Canada.
In short, some very special guests will be welcomed to the Teamsters
Canada 10th Convention!
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is
affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
