Media Advisory - Students to protest "Back to School" tuition fee hikes

    Tuition fees will be increased another 4 - 8 percent this upcoming fall

    TORONTO, Aug. 22 /CNW/ - Students from Ryerson, York and the University
of Toronto are reminding "Back-to-School" shoppers today that tuition fees
will be hiked again at the start of classes this fall. Fees will increase by
as much as eight percent, as part of Dalton McGuinty's "Reaching Higher"
framework. The framework, now in its final year, allows for tuition fee
increases by 20 to 36 percent over four years.

    Students will take part in an action to raise public awareness of Dalton
McGuinty's tuition fee increases. They will be collecting petitions calling on
the government to introduce a new post-secondary education framework that:

    -   Reduces tuition and ancillary fees for all students

    -   Converts a portion of every student loan into a grant

    -   Increases per-student funding above the national average
