Media Advisory - Steel giant and unions to launch innovative health and safety program

    MONTREAL and GENEVA, Sept. 14 /CNW/ - On Monday, September 17, at noon
the International Metalworkers Federation (IMF), United Steelworkers (USW),
and representatives from Arcelor Mittal will hold a press conference in Salon
A,B,C of the Centre Sheraton Montreal to announce a historic initiative to
improve health and safety standards throughout the company.
    The new venture is between the world's largest steel company and trade
unions representing its employees from more than 20 countries and is the first
of its kind in the steel industry.
    The company and unions are meeting in Montreal for the first Arcelor
Mittal World Conference hosted by the International Metalworkers' Federation
and the United Steelworkers.

    Arcelor Mittal is the global leader in steel production with 61 plants in
27 countries.

    The International Metalworkers' Federation is a federation of national
unions in the metal industry that represents the collective interests of
25 million metalworkers in more than 200 unions in 100 countries.

    The USW is a North American labour union representing 850,000 workers
employed in steel, other metals, mining, rubber, paper, energy, chemicals and
the service sector industries in Canada and the US.
