VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Aug. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Seventy-four soldiers of
Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF AFG) Rotation 4 will join their colleagues
in Afghanistan this Monday, August 20, to take part in a mission that aims to
bolster security and reconstruction efforts.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Defence, General Rick Hillier,
Chief of the Defence Staff, and Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie, Chief of the
Land Staff, will be present to meet the soldiers.
This flight is the 22nd since June 15, witch will bring the total number
of JTF AFG ROTO 4 troops deployed on the ground to approximately 2400.
The Canadian Forces' contribution in Afghanistan, represented by JTF AFG,
consists of approximately 2,500 CF members who belong to units from various

This represents the 4th rotation of Canadian troops in Afghanistan since
OPERATION ATHENA began in Kandahar, in July 2006, hence the term JTF AFG ROTO

Note: Media representatives will have a very short photo opportunity with
the Minister of National Defence at the airpot. Dignitaries will not grant
interviews during this visit to the soldiers and family. Media representatives
will not be able to access secured zones and the strip of Jean Lesage
International Airport. However, they will be able to film or take pictures of
soldiers from a sector located near the boarding zone. Cameramen and
photographers are therefore invited to show up at 700, rue de l'Aéroport to
cover the takeoff.
